Walking Netball - Join Us for a Fun and Friendly Walking Netball Event!


Whangarei Netball Centre is excited to invite seniors to our One-Day Walking Netball Event on the 8th of March! This event is designed to provide a safe, friendly, and supportive environment for everyone to enjoy a game of netball.

Walking Netball is a modified version traditional netball that is fully inclusive for everyone to participate. As the name suggest Walking Netball tailored to suit all abilities and fitness levels. It’s a fantastic way to stay active, meet new people, and have fun while keeping your body moving. Whether you're a seasoned netballer or new to the game, this event is all about enjoyment, community, and wellbeing.

Date: Saturday 8 March 2025

Time: Arrival 9.30am for a 10.00am start

Cost: $5:00 (to cover the cost of tea, coffee and light refreshments)

Location: Whangarei Netball Centre


Event Details:

  • Enjoy a gentle game of Walking Netball with no running—just plenty of movement, fun, and laughter!
  • The event is designed to be accessible and welcoming to everyone, regardless of experience or fitness level.
  • After the game, stick around for tea, coffee, and light refreshments, giving you a chance to relax, chat, and mingle with fellow players.

This is a wonderful opportunity to reconnect with others, improve your fitness in a low-impact way, and experience the joy of playing netball in a social, relaxed setting.

Walking Netball Rules 

Walking Netball follows the standard netball rules with a few modifications to reduce risk of injury and the speed of the game. These modified rules are highlighted below: 

  • No Running or Jumping: Players must always have one foot placed on hte ground throughout the game. 
  • 1-2 steps: Each player can take 1-2 steps from when they gain possession until they pass of shoot the ball. 
  • Time with possession: A player can keep possession of the ball for up to 4 seconds before they must pass or shoot. 
  • Defending distance: A player must be at least 3 feet away from the opposition player when defending. 
  • Substitutions: Substitutions can be made at quarter, half or three quarter time. 
  • Centre Pass: The centre pass will be taken as per the netball rules alternating between the centre of each team.
